LOCAL BIO-TECH COMPANY IN FINALS OF NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY COMPETITION

Sydney, Monday 18 August 2014.

Local bio-tech company BioGill has successfully made it to the finals of Australia’s most important technology competition.
The Australian Technologies Competition aims to find innovative Australian companies and provide them with the support needed to make them successful both nationally and internationally. Previous winners have seen their share prices rise, gained investment and established international partners.

BioGill, based in Taren Point, has smart, eco-friendly technology that delivers superior performance in the biological treatment of wastewaters. The technology was developed at ANSTO with BioGill created to commercialise the treatment process.
“It’s a breakthrough technology with BioGill creating the ideal, oxygen-rich conditions for microorganisms, nature’s best recyclers and decomposers, to grow and consume nutrients out of the waste stream. The end result is highly effective wastewater treatment at lower cost and lower energy,” explained Steve Atherton, CEO at BioGill.
The company now has BioGill units operating in eight countries including China, India, Canada, Mexico and the USA.

Announcing the list of finalists, Mr John O’Brien Managing Director of Australian CleanTech said:
“We aim to find the best technologies, provide them with the best mentoring possible and connect them with global partners. We aim to create multi-billion dollar global success stories.'”
Now in its fourth year, the Australian Technologies Competition has helped many of its past entrants turn good technologies into great businesses and is an initiative of the Department of Industry.
The Australian Technologies Award winner for 2014 will be announced at a gala dinner 16 September, Maritime Museum, Darling Harbour.
