Western Parkland City’s new Aerotropolis – New Advanced Manufacturing Research Facility

Ben Kitcher – NSW Treasury – Executive Director, Research, Skill & Technology

Ben has developed manufacturing and supply chain solutions for global aerospace companies and has built sustainable innovation groups which have grown the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing & Research Centre (AMRC) in the UK.

Now in Australia, at the centre of the Western Parkland City’s new Aerotropolis, Ben is setting up the Advanced Manufacturing Research Facility. This facility will have a clear mission to make advanced manufacturing technology accessible to industry and will play a key role in building high value and high growth supply chains for the industry in Western Sydney.

Western Sydney University – Launch Pad Innovation Program

Inu Rana – Sr Business Advisor – NSW Treasury – Industry Development (Space)

Prior to moving to Australia, Inu was involved with her family business of Pharmaceuticals in Delhi, India, and continues to serve on the board. Inu was on the panel of National Productivity Council, India. She has worked across the South Asian region and with Western Sydney University (WSU) on its industry initiatives around collaborative R&D
Inu’s work portfolio ranges from managing & supporting businesses, advising tech startups and working with the manufacturing industry in the Greater Western Sydney region.

Inu will address the WSU Launchpad and its work towards supporting manufacturing sector, Launchpad’s Western 4.0 network, initiative & future direction along with an Industry Case Study showcasing an Industry 4.0 project aimed at transitioning existing technical expertise of a typical Western Sydney manufacturing SME to start operating within an Industry 4.0 context.

Western Sydney University – Solar Car Challenge

Brad Nadalini
Brad is the Team Manager of the Western Sydney Solar Team, leading 25 passionate student volunteers to design, engineer, manufacture and race what may be the most efficient solar powered vehicle on the planet. Western Sydney Solar Team has a rich pedigree, placing 6th overall in the 2017 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, which was first in sub-class, and 1st overall in the 2018 American Solar Challenge, beating Michigan Universities 18 year winning streak.

Brad’s presentation will cover how the 2019 car was designed using finite element analysis/computational fluid dynamics and built mostly on campus, from tooling all the way to painting the final carbon fibre aero body and how they worked collaboratively with industry to develop their vehicle.
